We couldn't have said it better

(Reuters) - Occupy this: the trash bin. At least, so say students at Michigan's Lake Superior State University who released an annual list of words they deem so misused, overused and cliched they should be banished in the year ahead.
Happy New Year!

RMEW* exposes errors, bias, and propaganda in Reuters Middle East Reporting. It is not a "blog" as such but rather an open, public, evidentiary database documenting Reuters' violations of its own Trust Principles, Handbook, and generally accepted standards of professional journalism.

Reuters' Big Problem

  • Over the last two and a half years and some 700 posts, we think we've done a reasonably convincing job of demonstrating Reuters' systematic (some might say axiomatic) pro-Arab and anti-Israel bias. This leads to the next logical question...

Racism rampant@Reuters

  • As we've noted dozens of times, Reuters correspondents have an obvious and odious agenda which manifests relentlessly in their stories on the Middle East conflict. That agenda is to use the bully pulpit as the largest news agency in the world to advance Palestinian Arab interests by delegitimizing Israel and Jewish claims to the city of Jerusalem and surrounding territory...

On Propaganda

"Propaganda is persuading people to make up their minds while withholding some of the facts from them."

-- Harold Evans, The Sunday Times Editor 1967-81

On Reuters

"Maybe I should try my hand at fiction instead."

-- David Schlesinger, Reuters Editor-in-Chief 2007-11

On Journalists

"Reporters of course, they work very fast and they don't think too deeply about what they're doing."

-- Jonathan Wright, Former Reuters Cairo Bureau Chief
